I’ll do better next time

time-flies-clock-10-11-2006.gif

As usual, I spent my evening thinking about the weakest aspects of my presentation and how I’ve could done better. I’m a little disappointed by my explanations on scale-free networks and I make plans on how I will rebuild the speech with more subtleties next time.

But overall, I’m happy about last night. I think (I hope) I wasn’t ridiculous in front of all the beautiful minds and brains of the audience and that my presentation had a few thought-provoking moments.

To illustrate Microsoft belief in real life-networks, I used a quote of Francis Bacon (I initially believed it was the painter but it’s the philosopher) who once wrote “Friends are thieves of time”. I wish I had spent more time with my fellow bloggers last night: Luc, Pascal, Caroline,… and I regret I hardly or didn’t had the opportunity to chat with Maarten, Dominique (who posted a great piece of feedback), Valérie, Steven, Pieter, Tanguy, Bert, and many others. I also realized we just forgot to invite some major bloggers like for instance, Robin (our blogger database needs serious improvements). Hopefully, we’ll have new conversation opportunities real soon.

    Hi Philippe,

I see you’re using Mybloglog – you can have the widget in your sidebar at wordpress.com as explained here:

    Hi Phil,

I can reassure you, your presentation was inspiring! Personally I really appreciate how you use philosphy to explain and clarify some human behaviour on the net.

I took a lot of notes yesterday and this morning I had plenty of references to nourish my reflection.

    Thanks

    Val

Your presentation was indeed inspirational. Sometimes we just talk without thinking. We all need to think from time time, and you triggered that by starting from a thinkers point of view.

    Hey Philippe,

Your presentation was definitely insightful. As I told you it made me remember a comment I once saw on a post : “Thank you for making me think!”. Not to mention that this kind of event is a great chance to meet very nice people and engage conversation “live” on common online topics… It makes the world a smaller place.

Hi Philippe, It was an excellent presentation as usual and it was oh so cool with a Keith Haring visual 😉 Keep up the great thinking and thanks for the cd I’m listening to it right now.

  6. Valeria Maltoni Says:

Maybe there is a different way of looking at live meetings. If you think of them as opportunities to gather feedback, experience first hand reactions, touch upon topics of common interest, then the presentation or outline is just a component of it — the departure for a (free) conversation 😉

Pascal: I’m procrastinating for this widget for weeks 🙂 Is it better to have it?
Val: I’m looking forward to see the work you’ll do at IPM. They sure hired the right person!
Pieter: Reading your blog is for me a permanent opportunity to think out of the box. Thanks for the daily inspiration
Mindblob: It was really great to see you there, Bilout 😉
Tanguy: I’m curious to know what you think of the CD
Valeria: Next time, we’ll present less and discuss more as Pieter suggested us 🙂

I love the D&G reference … there needs to be far more philosophy in online marketing! Why? Because the thinking about complex interactions with humans/networks/machines has already been done … we can use these as frameworks for understanding the complex nature of life today.

About the widget: being a registered user at Mybloglog is all about being noticed and lets other people track your blogreading…

Having the widget at your own blog helps you to track who’s reading your blog.

So it all depends on your priorities :-).

  10. Philippe Says:

    OK, I give it a try 🙂

  11. Pascal Van Hecke Says:

    🙂
Works, although you’re still missing the visitors of your individual posts now…

You use a WordPress theme (Kubrick) that doesn’t have any sidebar for the postings, so Mybloglog doesn’t catch people if they click through from their feedreader (or from a search engine) and just read one posting.

  12. Philippe Says:

    Gosh!

I renounce the widget for now 🙂

  13. CK Says:

Um, judging by this AMAZING feedback…you did, well, amazing. Remember that where attention goes, energy flows. So just be proud of yourself.

I mean, just look at all the smiley faces in this comment thread :-).

    Here’s another :-).

    Hey there 🙂
I’m just in the middle of writing my comment on CoM and I came to your site to get your so inspiring presentation..then I read this:-) while I relate 100% to this after presentation/speech/talk feeling- and I have tons of stories to share with you next Thursday- I can only say that you were absolutely brilliant. As Mac Leod puts it: ‘only talented people fret about mediocrity’ 😉 Don’t change anything 🙂
